“Yes, but . . .”

As is our ritual since Sophie started preschool, I asked her if she wanted me to talk to her teacher about doing an author visit to her class. Every year she has said, yes; this year she is in third grade and added a caveat: “Yes, but don’t dance.”  “Dance? Did I dance last year?” “Yes”  “Really?” “Yes” “So, I can talk to your teacher, if I promise not to dance?”  “Yes”
