World War II Women

Since I’ve written two books about women in World War II–Rosie the Riveter: Women Working on the Home Front in World War II & Where the Action Was: Women War Correspondents in World War II— I immediately stopped as I flipped through the “New York Times,” at the obituary titled, “Nadezhda Popova, 91, WWII ‘Night Witch,’ Dies.” Fascinating reading with great quotes by my friend Amy Goodpaster Strebe, author of Flying for Her Country: The American and Soviet Women Military Pilots of World War II, also a fascinating read. Here’s a link to the obituary: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/15/world/europe/nadezhda-popova-ww-ii-night-witch-dies-at-91.html?_r=0

Here’s a link to an NPR interview in which you’ll hear Nadezhda Popova comment, via a translator, & Amy: http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=202401669&m=202401680
