Women’s Landmarks Everywhere

Home from a marvelous trip, I’m happy to report that we found landmarks to women here and there and everywhere. The first was an equestrian statue in Amsterdam of Wilhelmina, Queen regnant of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from 1890-1948.  Evacuated to England after Germany evaded the Netherlands in 1940, Wilhelmina took charge of the Dutch government in exile. Her broadcasts over Radio Oranje greatly inspired the Dutch resistance, who used her photograph as its sign. The statue was commissioned by a women’s group, funded by the people of Amsterdam, and sculpted by a woman Theresia R. van der Pant.
