International Women’s Day

Seated with leaders from England, France, Norway, Denmark, Finland, India, and Canada, Susan is second from left, Elizabeth is fourth from left. Matilda Joslyn Gage, co-author with ECS & SBA of the monument "History of Woman Suffrage" is fifth from left.

Happy 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day. Elizabeth & Susan organized the first international gathering for woman’s rights, the International Council of Women, which met in 1888 in Washington, DC. For 8 days, women & men from 7 countries and across the U.S. packed the hall in what Elizabeth called a “splendid agitation.”
