Today–June 27–in 1880 Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, AL. The image is my photograph of the statue in Emancipation Hall, U.S. Capitol (the first of a child) that represents Helen Keller when she made the connection between the water she was feeling in one hand and the word “water” her teacher Anne Sullivan was spelling in her other hand. The quote by Keller on the base reads: “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.”
