Frances Perkins

Today-May 13th-is the Feast Day for Frances Perkins, in the Calendar of Lesser Feasts and Fasts of the Episcopal Church that named Perkins a “holy woman.” As Secretary of Labor, Perkins was the first woman in a presidential cabinet and the architect of far-reaching labor and social legislation, including the establishment of Social Security.  I’m inspired by all the women I write about: Today I’m thinking about Frances Perkins, who I wrote about in A Woman Unafraid: The Achievements of Frances Perkins. The quote around the image reads: “Social justice is part of the implication of loving thy neighbor.”
