A Perfect—Totally Unexpected— Gift

I am holding the perfect—totally unexpected Christmas gift—this painting from the artist—my granddaughter Sophie Colman deHaen! Sophie included in her "WE CAN DO IT" painting (Rosie the Riveter's name was applied to this image by the National Archives in the 1970s), images of Alice Paul (on the right) and Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony (bottom left corner), thus referencing three of my books. Sophie's painting is hanging on the wall above our firepalce, replacing an oil painting by a well known now deceased artist—her great grandmother, my mother who would be delighted. I am wanting to write something "profound" about the power of unexpected gift giving, but I am at a loss for words. So, I will just sign off with a simple but heartfelt—Happy New Year! (Youngest granddaughter Quinn joined us for the "photo shot." More about Sophie is at sdhpaints.com) She's also on instagram. Click on the image to enlarge.)
