The inscription on the statue reads: “The legal right for woman to record her opinions wherever opinions count is the tool for whose ownership we ask.”  Abigail Adams wrote in a letter to her husband John, who was working on writing the U.S. Constitution: “If particular care and attention is not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice, representation.”
