Fifty years ago today, February 17, 1963, was the publication date of Betty Friedan’s “Feminine Mystique,” a book widely considered the spark that ignited the modern-day women’s movement. Linda & I took a road trip to Grand View-on-Hudson, New York to mark the day. Friedan wrote the book in this house overlooking the Hudson River. When I told a passing jogger, who had lived there, she said, “I didn’t know that, now I’ll give her a nod when I run by.” Here’s her house and her view of the Hudson River across to New York, the Tappan Zee Bridge is on the left.
