Shortly after I returned from Omaha, Nebraska, where I gave my Celebrating Women presentation to the staff of the Midwest Region of the National Park Service, I received an email from Bonnie Nicholson who thanked me for a “fun and inspiring program,” and said she’d “love to see” Maggie Walker of Richmond, VA–“first woman to charter a bank in the US–as well as one of the notable black women of her day”–added to my program. “Maggie Walker was in the presentation I gave last week in Buffalo, NY, and I’ll post those images on my blog,” I replied. Here they are: Maggie Lena Walker’s house in Richmond, a National Historic site; a photo of Walker, a plaque honoring her.
