A Memory

Coline Jenkins, the great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, just emailed me this photo she took in 2017 at the National Women's Rights Historical Park during the annual Convention Days celebrating the 1848 Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, NY. My talk was about my book Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony: A Friendship that Changed the World. The slide on the wall lists their key legacies: "Convinced countless people of the 'wisdom and truth of the then new gospel of woman's rights.' (That's a quote by Frederick Douglass who attended the 1848 convention and supported ECS's resolution for woman suffrage.); Organized, educated, agitated; Created invaluable and empowering written material; Founded consequential organizations; Modeled a steadfast friendship; Entered the 'field of political life.'" (ECS ran for Congress in 1866.)
