As if she had just died now, I noted what time it was when I wrote the sentence “Two weeks before Elizabeth’s birthday, Harriot sent a telegram to Susan with the news: ‘Mother passed away at three o’clock.’” For the record I wrote that at: 8:08 p.m., April 19, 2009, page 266 of my manuscript Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, A Friendship That Changed the World. I’m teary eyed; writing biographies is an intense experience. Now to write about Susan’s reaction. First, I should go upstairs and tell Linda.
